 Overview

The image people have of an "object" is almost always formed mostly from visual information. So the external design of a product (placement of patterns & letters, coloring, size, shape, etc.) has a gigantic impact on a customer's desire to buy a product and the impression the product makes.
In some cases just changing the color of a item is enough to give it huge appeal and turn it into a hit product.
The psychological state of a person is also greatly reflected by their eyeball movements so that detecting these eye movements is an ideal tool for predicting human behavior and thinking.
These facts prompted us to develop the "TE-9200 Eyeball Target Measurement System" as a way to accurately detect the position people are looking at.
This system basically works by measuring and plotting the eye gazing point of a test subject while showing him a test photo or pattern on a computer screen.
Designs or patterns that effectively matches the user's particular goal can easily be added to measure the eye gazing point for a particular time or spatial area.
Users having a particular need not included in the "TE-9200" standard features can easily design their own personal system.
Creating your own system is easy because all you need is the application program. After that, it connects through "RS-232C serial communications port" (or USB port) to the computer and it can receive data on the eye gazing point coordinates (x,y).

 Features

Non-contact type
Subject Compact and light-weight
Use in natural circumstances
 without pain or stress.
This system doesn't give some effect to subject's psychology. And it can measure the subject's Eye Gazing points correctly in the natural circumstances.
General Eye Tracker has many restrictions on the subject.
This system doesn't have such as restrictions and it can measure the Eye Gazing Points if the subject's eyeball has no troubles. Besides, there's no problems even if the subject wears either eyeglasses or contact lens.
The total weight is only 3.1kg. And the installation space is only B5 size. ( It excludes the CCD camera space.)

Calibration
Measure circumstances
System setting
In the case of general Eye Tracker, it needs to spend much time for calibration. But this system's calibration time is only 30 seconds and it's very simple and easy. Especially, it gives big effect if you have to measure many subjects' data. General Eye Tracker has many restrictions on measurement circumstances.
However, this system can measure in anytime and anywhere if sunlight doesn't light up the subject's eyeball directly. Therefore, if it's either room light or fluorescent light, it's no effects to measure.
General Eye Tracker needs to spend much time for the setting before measurement. Frankly, user needs the professional knowledge, and to spend much time and power for the setting. But this system doen't need such as wasted power because it does it by itself. User's job is only to turn on the power switch.




 Subject

This System has no restriction at the using environment and the subject. Therefore, it's not nessesary that the resercher chooses the subject. For example, though the samples are very special cases, this system can detect the subject's eyeball correctly.

 Standard functions

Eye Gazing Point Plot
It can plot the subject's Eye Gazing Points on the picture which is displayed on computer screen. If the subject is affected by the real time plot, the plot can be stopped during measuring. At that time, the Eye Gazing Points are plotted after measure. The measure speed is 1/60 second.



Eye Movement Tracing
It can measure the subject's Eye Movement on computer screen. Even if the measure is done by "Eye Gazing Point Plot" mode, the result of "Eye Movement Tracing" can be displayed after the measurement. Because as all of Eye Gazing points are stored in memory, it's very easy to analyze and display the result.


Percentage in each grid
It can analyze at the percentage in each grid. From this data, it can know the the grid which the subject stared. Though the grid is 25 in the above sample picture, user can choose the grid number. Of course, the grid number can be changed after finishing the measurement.



Percentage in each grid ( Rectangle area of User's assignment )
This system can anlysis the percentage of Eye Gazing Point in each grid that is assigned Rectangle area by user. The Rectangle is assigned on the screen's coordinate. The total number of the assigned Rectangle area has no limit.

「Density map」
This system analysises the Eye Gazing Points and displays the Density map with gradation. The kind of display is three patterns that is only "Density map", "Background picture"+"Density map" and "Background picture"+"Density map"+"Eye Gazing Point".


Measurement of many pictures ( Slide show )
This system can measure the subject's Eye Gazing Point on a lot of picture successively. The total number of picture is no limit. And user can set some condition that is the Display time, the Interval time, the names of picture and so on. In addition, the Eye Gazing Plotting can be replayed on the function as if it looks like Video.

 The method of Calibration


 Start the attached "TS-9101 Calibration program" and click the "Start"key.

As one blue mark is displayed in the center, subject watches at the mark.
When subject blinks or stares during a few second at the blue mark, it changes to red mark. After that, subject stares for a while at the red mark.
When bell sounds, the mark moves to next point and it changes to blue mark.
The points are center, left-up, right-up, right-down and left-down.
When subject repeats the action that is "Watching", "Blinking(or a few second staring)" and "Staring" at each point, the calibration is done. The time is within 30 seconds.

Measure data CSV When the "Store" key is push, the measure data is stored as CSV format data. Therefore, the data can be read and analysis very easy by Microsoft Excel or Word.
In addition, the data of Percentage in each grid (Total count and paercentage) is stored in the top of the file. After the data, the coordinates (x,y) are stored.
Plot picture Bitmap Above three pictures can be stored as bitmap data. Of course, the file can be opened and be printed.

Auto Pan Tilt
For detecting user's Eye Gazing Point with non-contact method that is necessary to monitor the user's Eyeball by CCD Camera, By this reason, the task to adjust the CCD Camera's position that is needed before begin the measurement.
But as this unit can adjust the direction of CCD Camera and adjust the zoom rate of camera, the user's work before measurement can be saved.

This unit displays the imaging picture that is monitored by CCD Camera. If the monitor or TV has a port of "VIDEO IN"(RCA), it can be used instead of this unit. But the video output of "TE-9101B" is NTSC video signal. And you can confirm whether the "TE-9101B" can measure correctly.

Head Movement Tracing Unit
As the non-contact method is to detect the User's Eye Gazing Point from far position, the user's head movement is biggest fault of this method.
However, this unit can detect the user's head movement and trace the user's eyeball in order that the "TE-9101B" can measure the User's Eye Gazing Point.

System Stand
All of components can be arranged at this System Stand. As the arrangement is best, the "TE-9101B" can measure the user's Eye Gazing Point correctly. And as all components are installed, the movement and establishment are very easy.

Measurement Program
(for Video input)
This program is added one special function to the standard function of "TS-9113" that is to measure the eye gazing point on the video. However, the video signal is input through the attached video board.
